Lesson 3, Day 18: Your Spirit is Energy

Everything is energy.

“There was a profound experience that happened when he left his body. It was visible. Let’s just say, you wouldn’t need to light the room, if you were trying to film it. He just… lit the room.” – Olivia Harrison in George Harrison: Living in the Material World

What is your spirit? There are many words used to describe the spirit: soul, higher self, consciousness, subconscious, the witness, the I Am presence. How do you know, without seeing it, without understanding it and without scientific confirmation that this form of energy actually exists? How will scientists ever confirm in a clinical setting phenomena that occurs spontaneously, such as a near-death experience, a vision of the dying light, or even the power of prayer? You can look for the proof of this spiritual energy within yourself by practicing awareness of all your “rooms.” Look for the essential, infinite part of yourself beyond the mental, physical and emotional rooms you have come to know.

Eckhart Tolle explains his awakening to his own spirit in the book, The Power of Now. He writes, “I cannot live with myself any longer.” This was the thought that kept repeating itself in my mind. Then suddenly I became aware of what a peculiar thought it was. “Am I one or two? If I cannot live with myself there must be two of me: the ‘I’ and the ‘self’ that ‘I’ cannot live with.” “Maybe,” I thought, “only one of them is real.”

When you feel inspired, and infused with creative energy, where does this come from? When you have an idea that you’ve never read about or seen before, how did it appear in your thoughts? It didn’t come from your brain or from memory.

As you journal your gratitudes, and focus your breathing on the area of your heart, become aware of the physical world and the nonphysical world. Be open to the possibility that one is eternal and one is not. Energy can not be destroyed, it can only change form. When the physical body ceases to exist, what form does that energy take?

Affirmation: I look at myself in the mirror and see the body in which my spirit resides. I love and respect myself. My spiritual energy exists beyond time, space and thoughts.
